Then & Now: The East Norwich Turn of the Vanderbilt Cup Races
The north-east corner of the 1905 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races was the East Norwich Turn located at the intersection of Jericho-Oyster Bay Road and North Hempstead Turnpike (25A). Here is a "Then & Now" analysis.

The Long Island Aviation County Club, the Motor Parkway and a Hangar
One of the first private country club airfields in the United States was built on 200 acres abutting the north side of the Long Island Motor Parkway in the Hempstead Plains.

Amazing Aerial Views of the Hempstead Plains/Levittown (1924 to 2012)
The heart of the Long Island Motor Parkway and courses for the 1908, 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races went right through the Hempstead Plains (now Levittown). These aerials show how this area dramatically changed from 1924 to today.

Then & Now: Potential Nassau Historical Markers on the Motor Parkway Trail
Nassau County is currently developing a master plan for a continuous multi-use Motor Parkway Trail. Part of the plan calls for the placement of markers "at the location of historical remnants and will serve as a way to educate the public on the history of the corridor as the original Long Island Motor Parkway..". These are my recommendations for 21 historic markers:

Most Motor Parkway fans know our favorite parkway surrounded one of the world's most famous airports -Roosevelt Field. But, many LIMPers do not know that the Motor Parkway also bordered on another airfield- the Long Island Aviation Country Club. (Remember to click on the photo to enlarge the image).
